Adams County. I received the following e-mail message on August 20, 1998: ============================================================================= Adams County will issue, and a visit is required. They did not specifically state a license from one's home state is required, but I did tell them in my letter that I had one. [Marylanders who frequent Pennsylvania may want to check into it further.] Other counties have generally requested a copy of one's home state permit with an application. Here's the letter I received. "In response to your letter regarding licenses to carry firearms. The licenses to carry are now photo ID and the approval process now goes through the PIC (Pennsylvania Instant Check) system. An application needs to be filled out and we then make a call to the state and they approve or deny it. This process can take up to five (5) days. Once approved you must come in and have your picture take and your license can then be issued to you. The cost is $25.00 each. At this time our computer system is being updated for the new license to carry layout. It will not be up and running until at least August 25, 1998. If you fill out and return the enclosed applications about 30 days before you will be in the Gettysburg area, I can do the approval process and have everything ready for your photo when you get here. Thank you for you interest in our licenses to carry." Filled out the application, gave them $25, then they made copies of my Texas CHL and Texas DL. They took my photo with a digital camera, and one hour from the time I walked in I had myself a 5 year license good for the entire state of PA. Issuing requirements vary from county to county, but for a non-resident permit, anyone with business in the state should get one. ============================================================================== From Gerald Shrewsbury (shrewsx2@aol.com) of Gainesville, Virginia; February 2, 2001: ============================================================================== I called Adams County and they were helpful to the point it seemed that they were glad to issue me one. ==============================================================================
