        Comment from a person who wanted to remain anonymous who received a
permit in July of 1996:

	"Nice page! As an addition to your list of counties, you can add
Centre County that issues to non-residents. I have one (July 96).
Sheriff just requires a copy of your out of state license and $20."
	"I don't know if they insist that you apply in person. I did, at the 
sheriff's office in Bellefonte, PA.  The process took all off 5 
minutes to fill out the application, pa $20,  and sign my permit.   
The permit was issued appox. 2.5 weeks later, after background check 
info came back from Harrisburg."

I called the Centre County Sheriff's office afterwards. The woman I 
talked to said that they do issue to out of state residents. I asked if I 
have to show up in person, and she said that I did. I told her that was 
kind of inconveniant for me at this time, and she thought for a bit, and 
said that we could do it all through the mail. The way it would work is 
they send me the application, I fill it out and send it back with a check 
for $20, and a photocopy of my current state's permit. She did not say if 
photographs were needed, and I did not ask. They would do the check, and 
if the background check passed, would mail me the permit. I would have to 
sign it, and then send it back. Then it would come back to me and be 
valid. I told her I didn't mind if things worked this way, and she took 
my address.

I got my Penna. Carry permit from Centre County today.

The process worked exactly as the woman I chatted with described.

Today I received the valid permit. The full size original, plus what
appears to be a laminated miniature copy of the original.

I found it interesting that they had my SSN on it. I don't remember giving
that to them.

photographs were not required.  My permit states "Valid without photo"

Hi there, here is an update for the Centre County, PA  listing on your CCW
website...they have started using insta-Check system....I just got my carry
permit last week, and it was fast, and easy and the clerks answered all my
questions to my satisfaction....it only took 5 minutes and I walked out of
the courthouse in Bellefonte with my permit...
