Franklin County. I received the following e-mail message on August 7, 1998: =========================================================================== [snip] Now the lukewarm news. Received a letter from the Office of Franklin County Sheriff Robert B. Wollyung. It reads: "We are enclosing two (2) [applications for] concealed weapon permits. We will need you to send along with the applications the following: A photocopy of your driver's license A photocopy of your concealed permit from Florida Also, one of you [either my wife or I] will have to come to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office in Chambersburg, PA to obtain the permits. Please send $5.00 for each application and we will begin the processing of them." The total cost is $19 - $5 deposit when applying, $14 due when the license is approved. Sounds good so far. They even enclosed a sheet of instructions for completing the application. However, a paragraph from the instructions reads: "Please be specific when requesting the type of License you want....multiple checks are OK. When checking 'Self-Defense', please give a short statement under 'Other' to explain why this category is needed..(Example: 'carry money home from business' or 'transport gun from place of business to home' etc...." Under "Reason for a license to carry firearms" the options are: Self-Defense, Employment, Hunting and Fishing, Target Shooting, Gun Collecting, and Other. The instructions state not to check Employment as this requires training under the Lethal Weapons Training Act, this Act is regulated by the Pennsylvania State Police, and it pertains to security guards, police officers and the like. Sounds as though Franklin County is discretionary, and I don't think I'll try to get "Denied" finding out. Feel free to use my name, city and state, but not my Email address. Thanks.
