York County. I've had six readers e-mail me regarding York County: ------------------------------ August 1997 ---------------------------------- Date: Tue, 05 Aug 1997 11:16:45 -0500 From: Andreas Yankopolus Ted, You may want to add York county to your list. I have a Georgia CCW permit and had no trouble getting a permit from them. I simply mailed in an application and picked up my permit three weeks later. No problem at all! On the other hand, Delaware County (the county in which my folks reside) refused to issue me a permit. Apparently, York county is well known for their no-hassle CCW process. The clerk told me they handle quite a few out-of-state applications. Were you able to do the entire process by mail or were > any visits in person required (such as picking up the application)? Only one visit in person was required: I had to pick up the permit. A friend mailed the application to me. Hey, what good are friends if they cannot get you a CCW application :-) -Yank ------------------------------- July 1998 ----------------------------------- From a reader who wished to remained anonymous: "I had an excellent and hassle-free experience in York County. I have a VA-CCW and recommend that anyone in VA use York County. Sheriff's Department is 717-771-9601...Everything by mail, except had to pick up the permit in person. Took only a couple weeks. No problem whatsoever." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- October 1998 ---------------------------------- From a reader who wished to remain anonymous: "I applied via mail and received a packet from Sheriff Hose Department, detailing what I needed to do to obtain a CCW. I have a permit from the state of Delaware and do business in PA. "After sending my application to Sheriff Hose and his dept. in YORK, PA, and waiting the period of 6 weeks, I rode up to York and was presented my CCW by a very courteous staff. Total time there was approx. 10 mins and cost a total of $21.. My DE permit took 3 months to get at a cost of $300... and now the new regulations have been implimated to include a course that requires profeciency with a firearm, the cost is going to be around $500." ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------- July 1999 ----------------------------------- I got a Pennsylvania CCW as a VA-CCW holder in June 1998. The entire process took about two weeks. Although I had to visit in person, it was a beautiful drive through some beautiful country. York County is great for non-residents and I am proud to vouch for them. Several of my friends have also gotten non-resident CCWs from York County and testified to friendly and painless experiences. York County Courthouse York, Pennsylvania 17401 Voice: (717) 771-9601, Fax: (717) 771-9957 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------- February 2001 --------------------------------- I live in Virginia and called the York County Sheriff's Office to see if they would male me a nonresident ccw permit application. Well, Deputy Holslander advised me that unless I had family in York County or conducted business, and of course could prove this, they do NOT issue non-res. permits. I advised him that I have a ccw permit for Virginia along with 5 years of L. E. training from Ohio when I was a Trooper there and that I only vacationed in Pa. such as Silver Springs resort....... He advised me that I would not be eligible for a permit under those circumstances.
